Group Wants Dollar Stores to Get Rid of Dangerous Chemicals

Kern County mothers with Líderes Campesinas protested in front of Dollar General stores in Bakersfield and Delano, urging chain representatives on Wednesday to trash merchandise with dangerous chemicals.

Mily Trevino-Sauceda is with the local chapter of the statewide group and says they’ll keep making noise until the products are off dollar store shelves nationwide.

“If the CEOs feel that we’re just in very small communities and we’re not making a difference, they’re going to be finding out that we’ll be making a difference,” she said.

Trevino-Sauceda also said group-ordered testing found toxins in Dollar General goods.

“We sent close to 200 products to an independent laboratory, and most of the products showed that they had toxins,” she said.

Dollar General did not return our calls, but sent a statement that said its products are safe and either meet or exceed federal safety guidelines.
