A new non-profit is using fees from a farmers market in Oildale to help feed about 200 senior citizens in need.
Market manager Jaclyn Allen says similar markets have been held in the neighborhood for about three years now, but this is the first benefiting Bakersfield’s Apple Core Project.
“People are responding well to the move to North High,” she said. “People see it as a more-central location that they’re familiar with in this area.”
Dozens shopped over 20 vendor booths at Thursday night’s now-weekly event.
The market opened at NHS for the first time last week.
