Two officers are on paid administrative leave after shooting a man to death in Stiern Park in southeast Bakersfield.

Sgt. Joe Grubbs says it happened just after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

“Once officers arrived, there was an officer-involved shooting,” he said. “The suspect is deceased here at the scene, (and) there has been a firearm recovered here at the scene.”

Grubbs says witnesses saw the man firing rounds at a passing car before they called 911.

The shooting shut down a section of Monitor Street for several hours Tuesday night.
