A pot of bubbling oil is being blamed for a fire that caused $5,000 damage to an apartment in north Bakersfield.

It happened at Castlegate Lane and Summerset Way before 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The building manager was able to extinguish the fire before it extended into 15 other units.
