A firefighter suffered heat-related injuries and at least one family is displaced after an apartment building caught fire on Tierra Verde Street in Bakersfield.

Dep. Chief Tyler Hartley says at least 30 city and Kern County firefighters were called to the structure at 7 p.m. Monday.

“Upon arrival, City Engine No. 4 found heavy smoke and flames coming from at least two units of a four-plex,” he said.

Hartley says the extent of the firefighter’s injuries aren’t known. He also says investigators have yet to figure out what sparked the fire.
