Weak quarterly reports from IBM, Microsoft and other tech companies sent stocks into the red on Tuesday.

The Dow lost 181 points, the Nasdaq fell 11 points and the S&P 500 dropped nine points. Benchmark crude gained 1.1 percent to $50.72 a barrel.
