Kern County firefighters have contained a 77-acre wildfire east of Interstate 5 on Tejon Ranch property.

Capt. Tyler Townsend says hand crews, helicopters and an air tanker were called near the Edmonston Pumping Plant at around noon Tuesday, and had the fire contained in about four hours.

“It was a fast-moving fire that was caused by lightning striking an oak tree,” he said.

Townsend says firefighters will remain in the area through Wednesday mopping up and monitoring the area for flare-ups.
