The Arvin City Council has decided against shutting down both of the city’s bars.

Council members opted instead Tuesday to consider measures to increase security at the businesses on Bear Mountain Boulevard.

A shooting at the El Potrero Nightclub on June 8 left two dead and a third with serious injuries.

Meanwhile, two suspects arrested in connection with the shooting have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. 29-year-old Lourdes Olvera and 36-year-old Salvador Chavez appeared in court Wednesday.

Both are scheduled to stand trial Sept. 14.
