Girl Wounded After Deputy-Involved Shooting in Oildale

Three Kern County Sheriff’s deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave after opening fire at a girl who was threatening to kill herself at Standard Park in Oildale.

Sr. Deputy John Carpenter said the girl pointed a handgun at the deputies after 6:30 p.m. Friday.

“When they arrived, they located her on the east end of the park,” he said. “The incident eventually ended up on the basketball courts.”

Carpenter wasn’t sure about the girl’s condition, but did say she was alert and conscious when she was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
