A Kern County Sheriff’s deputy is being charged with a misdemeanor after causing a deadly crash in Oildale.
Supervising Deputy District Attorney Michael Yraceburn says the decision was made after a California Highway Patrol report concluded 72-year-old Nancy Garrett did nothing wrong when her car was struck at 85 mph at North Chester Avenue and China Grade Loop last September by a cruiser driven by Nicholas Clerico.
“We filed one count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, or, as we say, with ordinary negligence,” he said.
A civil suit against sheriff’s office has also been filed by Garrett’s family.
