Searchers in Weldon think they’re closing in on a squatter that held three people at gunpoint in Twin Oaks, killed a dentist in the Jawbone Canyon and injured two SWAT deputies in a shootout.

Kern County Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt says nearly all available manpower is being focused on a chunk of a five-mile tract near the community that has yet to be searched.

“Last I heard, it was anywhere between 15 to 20 agencies and anywhere in between 125 and 150 personnel,” he said.

The search will enter day 14 on Tuesday.

Pruitt says the fugitive is still considered armed and dangerous.
