HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM GETS MORE HUMAN THANKS TO RENAME

San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield has renamed its Outpatient Surgery Center Waiting Room after a former cancer patient.

Lori Newby says her son Ryan, who lost his battle with the disease in 2007, would always try and make others feel at ease, even while he was going through treatment. The family hopes their donation, which makes the plaque and renaming possible, helps make a difference in people’s lives.

Hospital Executive Director Kevin Burton would not confirm the amount given but says he’s grateful for the very generous donation.

Burton went on to say people who visit the newly renamed waiting room will get a chance to learn more about Newby and, “…hopefully it will put some spirit in their life.”
