BUTTONWILLOW SUBSTATION AND RIDGECREST JAIL STAY OPEN FOR NOW

Kern County Supervisors and the Sheriffs Office will spend $300,000 to temporarily keep the Buttonwillow substation and Ridgecrest jail open.

Sheriff Donny Youngblood says he is still facing a $2.4 Million shortfall in July, and expects further cuts to impact the number of available deputies. The Buttonwillow substation will stay open until 2017 but with a reduced staff that will also serve Delano.

The city of Ridgecrest must come up with a financing plan by July 1st or the jail will be closed and the inmates transferred to the Mojave Detention Center.
