KEVIN HARVICK AND CAL RIPKIN, JR. TEAM UP FOR BAKO BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB REFURBISH

NASCAR champion Kevin Harvick and baseball hall of famer Cal Ripkin, Jr. stopped by the Boys and Girls Club in east Bakersfield to celebrate the $1 Million renovation of its gym and park.

Their foundations teamed up last year to fund the Niles Street project, and Harvick says he did it to bring joy to disadvantaged kids in his hometown. As part of the upgrade the facilities got an electronic scoreboard and fitness stations.

The field, which now goes by the name The Kevin Harvick Foundation Field, is made of astro-turf and is surrounded by sustainable plants, which the club thinks will make it last 20 years.

After the ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Harvick and Ripkin played with over 50 kids on the new field.
