Bail has been set at $10-million for a Kern County man who was arrested for kidnapping and sexually assaulting his former girlfriend.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt says the ordeal began when 45-year-old Gilberto Gutierrez broke into the woman’s home Sunday. He then took her to a motel in Maricopa, and then drove her to an orchard on Monday. The woman got a hold of a cell phone and called her family, who alerted deputies.

She was rescued after Guiterrez’s car was stopped Monday on South Union Avenue and Panama Road in Bakersfield.
