The Bakersfield City Council has taken a position against a proposal to build an interim high speed rail station north of Shafter.

The Bakersfield Californian reports the city wants to go on record as opposing the rail authority’s draft plan to build the first segment from San Jose to north of Bakersfield, because it delays service to Bakersfield and removes Shafter as a potential site for a permanent, heavy maintenance facility.
