HOMELESS CENSUS SHOWS 12 PERCENT DROP

This year’s count of the homeless in Kern County found well over a thousand people without a permanent place to stay, meaning they were sleeping outside, in an emergency shelter, or in transitional housing.

That is a 12% decrease since 2015. The survey is required by HUD, or the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which provides funding to help the homeless.
