The prosecutor has made her closing arguments in the case against a former Bakersfield couple charged with the murder of their 3-year-old niece and foster daughter.

The Bakersfield Californian reports Melissa Allen displayed graphic autopsy photos Tuesday of Serenity Gandara, which showed 22 separate injuries to the girl’s head.

Carla Torres and Alberto Garcia fled to Mexico in 2010 after Serenity died, also leaving behind Gandara’s four-year-old brother.
