BAKO AMTRAK IN FATAL CRASH

An Amtrak train that left Bakersfield slammed into a pickup truck in Madera County killing three men. The train had 20517 passengers and it hit the truck at an unmarked crossing at about 12:30 Friday. The CHP says the train was going 79 miles per hour and a parked freight train may have blocked the truck driver’s view. The engineer driving the Amtrak ducked when he saw the imminent collision and suffered very minor injuries. No passengers were hurt. Debris from the truck was spread over hundreds of yards from the dirt road crossing where the collision happened.
