State Attorney General Kamala Harris has issued a consumer warning about mortgage loan modification scams. Scam artists are calling or sending mail that appears to come from the homeowner’s mortgage company offering a 3-month trial payment plan. If the victim makes all three lower payments, the new premium becomes permanent. What is permanent is their money is gone.
