A sudden blast of wind downs lines in central Bakersfield. A line of power poles and a tree were knocked down by an unexpected wind gusts in the area of Bernard Street between Magnolia and Alta Vista. The winds came just before 7:00 Friday night and toppled eight to ten power poles, leaving numerous power lines in the alley behind homes in the area. When Bakersfield Fire arrived, crews watched as another gust of wind caused a large tree to topple onto more lines, causing more poles to snap and knocking over a power pole that fell onto an unoccupied vehicle. P G and E crews were heading to the scene and should expect to be there through the night restoring power… and power lines.
