It’s a special recognition for National Law Enforcement Week in Bakersfield. Students at Liberty High School came up with the idea to have a local take on the observance that show appreciation to law enforcement. Backing the Blue involves numerous activities around town including blue ribbons and lights along Chester and Truxton Avenues and several event tied to downtown’s Third Thursday. Businesses will be having law enforcement themed window displays with the Downtown Business Association picking the winners. A dunk tank promises to have a couple of city council members offering themselves for dousing. Events also focus on the serious in remembering those who died in the line of duty.
