The state legislature is demanding an audit of the Department of Motor Vehicles over how disabled parking placards are issued. The program has never been audited even though the DMV has been allowed to self-audit for the past 15 years. Now there is one placard issued for every nine drivers in California. Wednesday’s audit approval is intended to assure only those who are truly disabled are issued placards and plates.
