CAPK LAUNCHES SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM

The Community Action Partnership of Kern will be launching their annual Summer Food Service program to help hungry kids during their break from school.

Three sites across the county will hand out free breakfast and/or lunch to low income children starting June 6th, and CAPK thinks they will serve hundreds of meals to kids 18 and younger before the program ends July 29.

The sites serving breakfast and lunch are:

  1. CAPK Friendship House Community Center, 2424 Cottonwood Road, Bakersfield, CA
  2. CAPK Shafter Youth Center, 455 E. Euclid Avenue, Shafter, CA

The site serving lunch only is:

  1. The Salvation Army, 15662 K Street, Mojave, CA

The program is not available on holidays.

The number of students who get free or reduced meals on campus has grown by 25% in a decade.
