LAW ENFORCEMENT SAYS NO TO GUN CONTROL INITIATIVE

Local law enforcement leaders, including Sheriff Donny Youngblood and Taft Chief of Police Ed Whiting, have come out against a gun control measure that’s not even on the November ballot yet.

Backers of the Safety for All initiative say banning large capacity magazines and requiring background checks on all ammunition sales would stop mass shootings, but Whiting and Youngblood believe it is an attack on the 2nd Amendment that turns law-abiding gun owners into criminals.

At Friday’s news conference Whiting added that the law if passed is impractical and cast doubt on whether officers would be able to get the outlawed magazines off the streets.
