KHSD GENDER VOTE STIRS THE POT

KHSD Board votes on gender ID policy, but was it a big deal? Thursday’s 3-2 vote by the Kern County High School District Board to eliminate discrimination for students based on gender identity had board member Chad Vegas saying he could not sit on a board that must uphold what he called an immoral rule. Vegas said he will not seek re-election in November after 12 years on the board. Whitney Weddell, Chair of Bakersfield LGTBQ, said the policy was already in place administratively for two years and the accommodations had been taking place since then. She said there have been no complaints and the kids, she said, are not “freaking out over this” like she says adults are.
