Water rates could be going up in Bakersfield. The increase will come if the plan gets final approval from the city council, which is expected. The 3.5 percent increase will be considered on June 29th and the water resouces manager told the council Wednesday it would be the first increase since 2010. If approved, it would take effect July 1st. The city considers the increase part of a strategic plan to keep Water Resources in good financial condition and help support the city’s top level credit rating.
