COUNTY TAKES AIM AT ILLEGAL FIREWORKS

A two year campaign to cut the use of illegal fireworks in Kern County is ramping up again, with signs posted at all county parks and a website detailing where fireworks may be used.

Fire Chief Brian Marshall told the Supervisors Tuesday that anyone who starts a fire in wildland areas could be responsible for the cost of putting it out. Marshall says a temporary hotline set up during last year’s Fourth of July holiday got more than a thousand calls.
