Bakersfield police are hoping to turn almost 10,000 non-violent, active warrants into citations during Clear Your Warrant Day. People who come by certain city parks on Wednesday and Thursday can get a new court date without fear of arrest.
Sergeant Gary Carruesco says the BPD is doing the event because it costs the department money when a person is booked into county jail and because officers spend too much time chasing a warrant that could be easily cleared by a citation.
Hundreds of people had their warrants cleared during last year’s event.
The parks holding the event are:
- Jefferson Park (801 Bernard St., Bakersfield) on Wednesday, June 22nd from 9:00a.m. until 3:00p.m.
- MLK Park (1000 S. Owens St., Bakersfield) on Wednesday, June 22nd from 9:00a.m. until 3:00p.m.
- Patriots Park (1600 New Stine Rd., Bakersfield) on Thursday, June 23rd from 9:00a.m. until 3:00p.m.
