Kern County firefighters had to use a helicopter to put out a grass fire east of Bakersfield near Highway 58 just east of Towerline Road. Twenty acres were burning when crews arrived after 1:00 Saturday afternoon, but the fire grew to 178 acres before it was extinguished.

There were no injuries or homes damaged.
