PIONEER SPRAY PARK OPENS

Kids in east Bakersfield have a new option to beat the heat with the opening of the new Pioneer Spray Park.

County Parks Director Bob Lerude says it took a year of construction, and the facility on Pioneer Drive past Fairfax Road is drought-friendly because the water from the cannons and flower fixtures is collected and used at night to irrigate the park.

The park was funded through a $747-thousand state grant. It is the fourth county spray park open for the summer, joining Lost Hills, Mojave East and Casa Loma Park in Bakersfield. It is open daily from noon-7p.m.
