FIREFIGHTERS ASK PEOPLE TO PROTECT THEIR PUPS THIS FOURTH

Kern County firefighters and Animal Control are asking the public to watch their pets during July 4th fireworks shows to cut down on the number that end up in shelters.

Fire Chief Brian Marshall told supervisors last month that the county spent around $100,000 taking care of 380 animals between July 3-7, and many were frightened by the loud noises. The county may charge fireworks vendors a fee next year to cover the extra cost.

It is recommended that dogs stay inside, on a leash, and/or are given a safe space so they do not run away.
