Firefighters were welcomed with a standing ovation.
It happened at a community meeting about the Deer Fire. Wednesday night’s gathering at the Whiting Center in Bear Valley Springs informed residents the fire was 97 percent contained with no structures lost and 1,875 acres burned. The fire was prevented from cresting over the hill to populated areas. Initial responders are credited with treating the fire that began July 1st as a major incident from the very beginning. The goal was to keep it away from masses of dead trees just above Bear Valley Springs and efforts were successful.
