People who turned out to a public meeting regarding the Erskine Fire near Lake Isabella were assured they would get help as they tried to rebuild, even as the last emergency shelter is about to close. The emergency call center is now closed and the evacuation shelter at Kernville Middle School will close on Thursday.

Kern County Fire Chief Brian Marshall told evacuees that the fire will go down as the 15th most destructive in California history. Marshall also thinks the fire was the fastest moving on record.

Fire managers expect to gain full containment of the Erskine Fire sometime Wednesday.
