BAKO COLLEGE WANTS $527 MILLION

Voters will be asked to raise property taxes in November. The Kern Community College District Board voted Thursday to place a measure on the ballot to upgrade facilities and buildings on the B.C. campus. A consultant had surveyed likely voters and found the bond measure would enjoy 71 percent support although only 55 percent is needed for passage. The study found voters favor local issues, like community colleges, and have little feeling for statewide issues. The concern is that the ballot will have too many items and voters might give up before they get to the bond measure.
