ERSKINE SOIL STUDY IS POSITIVE

A survey of the land burned by the Erskine Fire shows not much danger of soil erosion. The USFS/BLM study indicates erosion or landslides are unlikely despite the size of the fire. The federal government released a soil burn severity report Thursday indicating only one percent of the land is severely damaged. 43 percent is in the moderate range so future soil erosion should not be affected. The fire moved quickly in most places due to very dry fuels, but not heavy fuels.
