Kern County may soon have its own groundwater sustainability agency after the Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to form one. If the state approves the filing, the agency would set limits on how much groundwater could be pumped from local aquifers. The county is working with several agencies, including the city of Bakersfield, to see which aquifers they would control so there is no overlap.
