PUBLIC SAFETY TAX OFF THE BALLOT

Supervisors have voted against putting a one-cent public safety tax on the November ballot, saying the county needs to look harder at new budget reductions before asking voters for money. Sheriff Donny Youngblood made that proposal Tuesday in a bid to keep deputies on the streets, as his department faces a second round of deep budget cuts.

There was a long discussion over how the county should proceed, and staff was directed to start a conversation in the community to determine the public’s level of interest.
