SUPS MOVE CLOSER TO CUTS

Supervisors are moving forward with 5%, across the board budget cuts for the new fiscal year in September, after an hours-long discussion on the impact to public safety.

The Sheriff and DA painted a dark scenario at Tuesday’s meeting of what more reductions would mean, but Zack Scrivner said the board must look at all ways to close the gap from two years of sharply lower oil tax revenues. County Administrator John Nilon said the cuts next year would be even more dire if they held back this year.

Supervisors rejected the idea of 15% cuts to Animal Care, Human Services, and the libraries to give more money to public safety.
