16 unlicensed contractors face a court date after being nabbed in a sting.The Contractors State License Board conducted a sting operation in southwest Bakersfield last week by soliciting for jobs on Craigslist.com. They contacted the unlicensed handymen who offered to do work in excess of the legal maximum of $500 where a license is no required. Ten of those cited also did not have Worker’s Compensation Insurance, something the Board warns could leave homeowners liable if a helper should be injured on the job. The unlicensed contractors face misdemeanor charges and are due in Superior Court September 27th.
