The man killed by a suspected drunk driver has been identified as a former councilman and mayor of Wasco. His family told KGET 81-year-old Melvin McLaughlin died in Tuesday morning’s crash in north Bakersfield when his car was broad-sided by 29-year-old Lorenzo Alonzo of Delano. McLauglin was also a retired Kern County firefighter. Alonzo faces DUI charges involving the death and the injury of a woman who was in his car. Court records show two previous DUI convictions for Alonzo.
