The July report for home sales in Bakersfield shows a weakening economy. The latest monthly update from Gary Crabtree and Affiliated Appraisers shows home sales volume is declining, unsold inventory is up almost thirteen percent from June and the median closing price was off by $7,500 to $229,450. Crabtree blames the loss of 1,200 jobs in the government sector for the decline as the oil slump and loss of tax revenues hits home. Homes that are being offered need to be in good condition, he says, otherwise sellers can expect long waits for an offer and prices below asking.
