HOMELESS TO CLEAN PARK

A pilot program aims to save the county money and give work the the homeless.Kern County Parks and Recreation has signed an agreement with the Bakersfield Homeless Center to provide workers to help with cleaning and maintenance at the county park in Frazier Park. The deal is worth almost $30 thousand over the next year and the workers will be paid a stipend by the shelter. Parks Director Bob LaRude says it will save the county a lot of money by not having to hire full-time workers with benefits. The pilot program would be extended to other parts of the county if it proves successful.
