Kern County Firefighters are being deployed around the state during this summer’s fire season. Captain Tyler Townsend says 121 are fighting fires outside the county and that this is a busy time for mutual aid where departments help each other make it through major wildfires.

Townsend says the department does not send so many out of the county that they don’t have enough to fully staff every fire station back home.
