A man who was convicted of shooting another man five times at a backyard barbeque has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison. Prosecutors say 26-year-old Fernando Romero killed 43-year-old Juan Ramirez near Real Road and Belle Terrace in southwest Bakersfield in 2014 over some stolen items.

Romero was on probation for DUI when he committed the murder. He must also pay restitution to the victim’s family.
