Kern County is applying to be a Groundwater Sustainability Agency for two areas where local water districts are doing the same. Supervisor Mick Gleason says Tuesday’s vote doesn’t mean the county wants to take control from the West Kern Water and Delano-Earlimart Irrigation districts, they just don’t want the state to take over. The county will withdraw their applications when they reach groundwater management agreements with the districts. The state is providing a set amount of time to establish GSA’s or they will step in.
