VOTING IS SECRET, NOT SELFIE

Voters will not be allowed to take selfies in the polling place. The word is being spread because of some celebrity pictures recently posted on social media. Kern County’s Chief Deputy Registrar Karen Rhea says there’s been some confusion over recent legislation and court rulings as to what you can do in the polling booth. Governor Brown recently sign legislation allowing people to display their completed ballot, theoretically permitting selfies, but the law doesn’t take effect until January first. Cell phones are not allowed at all in polling places, and neither are campaign t-shirts, hats or buttons.  Meanwhile, mail-in ballots will be accepted at a curbside drop-off Saturday, November 5th from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on N Street at California Avenue.
