A man who was struck by a car as he crossed the street near Garces High School in northeast Bakersfield has died of his injuries, and now police are trying to determine how it happened. The victim was at Union and West Jeffrey Street when he was hit around 5:30 Monday afternoon, but it does not appear that drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the accident.
