Kern County Public Health is confirming the first death from St. Louis Encephalitis this year. The virus is carried by the same mosquito that transmits West Nile Virus and the unidentified victim also had other health issues. There is no treatment for the disease, so County Health says prevention by keeping mosquitoes away is the best option.
