FIRE AT BAKO REFINERY

An asphalt tank caught fire at the San Joaquin Refinery on Standard Street in northwest Bakersfield. Workers were able to get a fire suppression system started around 11:30 Friday morning and County Fire engines also responded. A suppression system flooded the tank with water and the fire was almost extinguished when engines arrived. The cause is unknown, but damage is estimated at about $150 thousand to the tank and the asphalt product stored inside.
